GOLDEN TRIANGLE TOUR PACKAGES

About Package

The Golden Triangle of India, made up of Delhi at the apex and Jaipur and Agra at the western and eastern extremities, lies in the heart of north India. It is a land-locked region enclosed by the Himalaya mountains in the north, the Great Indian or Thar desert in the west and the Aravalli hills in the south. To the east stretch the teeming fertile plains of the River Ganges, endlessly green with fields of wheat, sugar cane, mustard and lentils. Delhi is the capital of India and also has the status of a state. Jaipur is the capital of the state of Rajasthan and Agra is the seat of the Taj Mahal and an important industrial and tourist centre in the state of Uttar Pradesh.

Successive empires have flourished in the around the Golden Triangle. From the ancient civilisation of Mohenjo Daro and Harappa (2500BC-1700BC) west of Rajasthan and the powerful Rajput principalities that now make up the modern state of Rajasthan to the ancient city of Indraprastha (1450BC) in Delhi. The latter was once the Delhi Sultanate (1526-1858) in which Delhi, Jaipur and Agra were bustling centres of arts and politics. The Golden Triangle evolved in the early 20th century to the centre of the British empire in India.

With Independence in 1947, the Golden Triangle become a crucible of politics. During the freedom struggle, Uttar Pradesh was the centre of powerful Gandhian movements and after Independence the majority of India's prime ministers came from that state. Modern Day Jaipur is a shadow of its former glory, but nonetheless remains an 'open air museum' that show off the art and architecture of the once-powerful Rajput Kingdoms. Delhi's position as India's capital makes it a showcase for the country's richly layered history and society. The seven cities of Delhi (some say 15) make up a long chain of historic urban centres, of which New Delhi – built by the British between 1911 and 1939 – is the most recent.

The Golden Triangle is at a cultural vantage point between Hindu, Muslim and western religions. The traditional and the modern face each other on every noisy colorful street corner. Muslim and Hindu, upper caste and gypsy swarm down the streets and into holy places. Opel Astras and bullock-carts pause together at traffic lights. Jean-clad young professionals climb up temple stairs. A caparisoned elephant might be brought in to celebrate the launch of a new software company, while the call of the muezzin competes with Hindu bells.
